IllBottenGooty will be playing Mitch’s Ball tonight, Friday December 15th, along with Minivan Blues Band, Phil Barnes and Friends and a few other great Memphis acts at Newby’s for a fundraiser for Cancer. Also, IBG will be on the Brookhaven stage for a New Year’s Eve party that should be rather, well, interesting. Here is an email interview that Brandon and I will be continuing over the next few weeks. Here it is, though, your IBG starter kit just in time for the holidays.
Who is IllBottenGooty?
Ill Booten Gotty :) and we're in dire need of a name change...:)
The band consists of Anthony Barrasso-drums, Tony Walsh-percussion,Mark Cianciola-bass,Trey Robison-guitar,vocals, Brandon Edwards-vocals,guitar
How would you describe the band to a someone who hadn't heard you?
ROCK N ROLL
Who are the influences (local or national) of IBG?
Everyone in this band brings a different influence but to name a few I'd say Van Halen, Johnny Cash, Shawn Lane, Bury the Bone, Foo Fighters, Soulhat, Zappa, John Prine, Little Feat, Stones, Beatles, Funkadelic, David Byrne, Booker T & the MG's and Beanland to name a few.
How long has the band been together. Is this an incarnation of a previous band?
We've been together about nine months now...Trey and I started playing acoustic gigs out at the Central BBQ in the Summer of '05 and things just kind of progressed from there.. Though the band members have come from old Memphis bands..
Barrasso-Bury the Bone, The Pawtuckets and several other projects
Walsh-Memphis Jones Revolution, Stout
Robison-Thrill of Confusion
Cianciola-Parallel Parker
Your thoughts on Memphis music in general?
The best place in the world to catch a HUGE VARIETY of Music....You can walk into just about in bar in the city and catch some serious musicians kicking it.....You can't do that in a Little Rock or Jackson,Ms....
Favorite place to play in the city?
We're currently playing The Brookhaven Pub, Newby's, Neil's, P&H Cafe, Full Moon Club..and have enjoyed playing everyone of those venues.....
Best show you've seen in the city?
As far as local acts go I caught Rusty Lemon a few weeks ago and those guys were tight...good sound, good vocals,etc.etc.. The Secret Service are really good as well......
Which musician from this city would you most like to share the stage with?
There are so many great musicians from this city.....that kind of stuff is all based on timing....I THINK!...We've had Richard
Cushing-Freeworld, Hunter Rosen-Memphis Jones Revolution, Spoon Benders, Phil Barnes and Jay Valentine-Phil Barnes Band, and Matt McCormack-Rock Bottom Choir, Bury the Bone all sit in with us..and that is super-fun stuff.........I'd like to see any piano player sit in with us.....Sykes, Selvidge, Overstreet, Gales, Wagner on guitar...once again this city is full of great musicians...
Finally, what should we expect from IBG at the New Year's Show at The Brookhaven Pub?
First and foremost a good time....music-wise we like to mix it
up...should be introducing five or six new originals that night....we're superstoked about playing New Years Eve this year...the Brookhaven has been our backyard so everyone bring their dancin' shoes cause we plan on rocking out and ringing in a styling NYE....
