Admittedly, this film has caught my eye. I don’t know whether it’s the visual effects of the film, the thought of watching another Greek tale go down in flames or that’s it’s the only release this weekend. Regardless, something is pulling at my movie strings. Even though this will be the definition of a story being “Hollywooded Up”, it still should be at least pleasing in all of its’ gory. To wit, this film has received far more praise than most films of this genre and it might say something about the state of films so far this 2007 that this one is getting the best reviews so far.
The tale of the battle of Thermopylae is one of 300 Greek soldiers protecting their land from the oncoming million soldiers from Persia. It is a last ditch effort to save the empire of Greece and the Greek soldiers are willing to fight to the death to save their homeland. This plot, along with some of the trailer scenes, very much depicts the legend of this battle. The shot within the trailer of the arrows coming down in what looks as if the sun has been blocked out seem genuine. Overall, although this film is not based anywhere in reality, it should be a fast paced period war piece that stands the tests. The fact that it was originally a Frank Miller novel only means it could be very good as opposed to just good.

On another note, it’s probably a good thing that there were no other films released seeing as Borat came out on DVD Tuesday and the new Bond comes out on DVD next Tuesday. Just a thought.
