Zodiac
Director: David Fincher
Stars: Jake Gyllenhaal, Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo
Studio: Paramount Pictures
It’s a light weekend, but there are two potential great films coming out this weekend. One, Black Snake Moan, has already been reviewed on this site by Cheryl Wolder and as it’s the atop the home page, you’ve probably already seen the story. The second film I speak of so highly is this one. Yes, I’m a crime/ serial killer movie buff, so it’s not so surprising that I’m going to see this after BSM, but regardless of my soft spot for this genre, most accounts point to this movie at least reminding us of The Silence of the Lambs. It’s a true story of terror.
Seeing as David Fincher apparently took pains taking effort to reenact the original feel of the Zodiac spree, the plot and the actual story should mirror each other. The Zodiac killer went on a rampage that definitely included 7 people but could have had a death toll as high as 37 over a ten month period in the late 1960’s. The killer taunted the public, the police and the press by constantly making contact with the cops and the press and getting the San Francisco Chronicle to publish his Zodiac clues lest he go on a killing rampage. The Zodiac has never been found. The case was made inactive in 2004 by the San Fran cops, but still stays open to this day in other areas of Northern California.

Wild Hogs
Director: Walt Becker
Stars: Tim Allen, Martin Lawrence, John Travolta
Studio: Touchstone Pictures
From the ‘What the F&^k were they thinking’ comes this little jewel. Start with one of the most disturbing cast collections in some time and add in a crap script and this is what you get. When I first saw the trailer, I literally thought it was a joke. Maybe a funny ad. Now, I know the joke's on whomever pays money to go see this. If there was ever a movie that went into the lead for a Razzie before it even came out, this is the film. I’m not even sure there is a plot, so go if you want, but I warned you.
